Engagement Rings Melbourne

Finding the right engagement ring in Melbourne isn’t a matter of browsing until something is close enough. It’s a matter of finding a jeweller who can create something that’s actually right — a ring designed around your partner’s style, built to the standard an heirloom deserves, and created by someone whose name you know and whose work you can see.

At Franco Jewellers on Collins Street, that’s exactly what we do. From our intimate 9th floor boutique in the Manchester Unity Building, Silvana and Daniela Ceresiani work with Melbourne couples to design and create engagement rings that are genuinely one-of-a-kind — handcrafted in-house by our master jeweller, set with GIA certified diamonds, and built to be worn every day for the rest of your partner’s life.

We’ve been doing this since 1968. Fifty-eight years of Italian heritage craftsmanship, second-generation family ownership, and a philosophy — inherited from founder Franco Ceresiani — that values the right decision over a fast one. There’s no pressure in our boutique. There’s no countdown. There’s only the time you need to get it right.

Every Ring Begins With a Conversation

Every Franco Jewellers engagement ring starts the same way: talking, not browsing. We learn about your partner — their style, their existing jewellery, their preferences for bold or refined, minimal or detailed, classic or contemporary. We discuss metals — 18ct white gold, yellow gold, or rose gold, and platinum for clients who want the most durable and prestigious option — and explore diamond shapes and how different shapes interact with different settings to produce very different overall impressions.

From that conversation, our master jeweller develops the design. For most commissions, this involves a CAD rendering — a precise three-dimensional preview of the ring before a single gram of metal is touched. You review, refine, and approve the design. Then it’s made — here, by hand, in our on-site workshop. Franco Jewellers handmakes rings rather than casting them, a distinction that affects fewer than ten per cent of jewellers in Australia and produces measurably superior results in metal density, finish quality, and structural integrity.

If you already know you want a fully custom design built from a reference point, or a completely bespoke commission built around your story rather than a starting design, our Custom Made Engagement Rings and Bespoke Engagement Rings pages go deeper into each approach — including how the process, timeline, and conversation differ between them. You can also read more about how we approach the design process on our blog.

GIA Certified Diamonds — Buying With Confidence

Every diamond at Franco Jewellers comes with GIA certification — grading from the Gemological Institute of America, the world’s most respected and independent diamond authority. A GIA certificate provides a complete, objective assessment of the diamond’s cut, colour, clarity, and carat weight, along with additional details on polish, symmetry, and fluorescence.

What this means for you in practice: when Silvana or Daniela presents a diamond, you know exactly what you’re looking at. There are no vague descriptions, no inflated claims, and no surprises. The certificate is yours to keep, and it serves as independent verification of the stone’s quality for insurance purposes.

Both natural mined diamonds and lab-grown diamonds are available. Lab-grown diamonds are physically and chemically identical to mined diamonds — the same hardness, the same brilliance, the same chemical composition — and are available at significantly lower price points. Silvana and Daniela will walk you through both and give you an honest comparison, not a sales pitch in either direction.

Engagement Ring Styles — From Classic to Fully Bespoke

Whether you arrive with a clear vision or no idea at all, we can help. Our collection spans everything from clean, contemporary solitaires to intricate vintage-inspired halo settings, and every style in between. These serve as both a starting point and a demonstration of what’s possible — every piece in our collection can also be modified, adapted, or used as loose inspiration for something entirely new.

Solitaire Engagement Rings

The solitaire remains the most enduring engagement ring style for good reason. A single diamond — chosen for its cut quality and brilliance — elevated by a simple band lets the stone carry the ring. The variations within the solitaire category are considerable: four-claw or six-claw settings, cathedral or low-profile profiles, plain or tapered bands, round or shaped shoulders.

Halo Engagement Rings

A halo setting frames the centre stone with a border of smaller diamonds, amplifying brilliance and creating the impression of a larger central stone. Halo settings work particularly well with cushion, oval, and round diamonds, and can be designed as a single or double halo depending on the desired impact.

Trilogy Engagement Rings

Three stones, representing the past, present, and future of a relationship. The trilogy remains one of the most symbolically resonant engagement ring designs, and the variation possible within it — different stone shapes, different proportions, different band styles — means no two are alike.

Vintage and Art Deco Inspired Rings

Intricate milgrain detailing, filigree work, and the geometric lines characteristic of Art Deco design have a natural affinity with the heritage of the Manchester Unity Building we call home. If your partner is drawn to the craftsmanship of an earlier era, our master jeweller’s breadth of experience with both traditional and contemporary techniques makes these styles very much within reach.

Something Entirely Your Own

If none of the above is quite right — or if your partner has a very specific vision — we start from a blank page. This is where a bespoke commission takes over from a styled starting point: some of the most technically ambitious designs we’ve ever produced began with nothing more than a description and a few words about the person the ring was for.

Why Melbourne Couples Choose Franco Jewellers for Their Engagement Rings

The decision of which jeweller to trust with an engagement ring isn’t a small one. Here’s what sets Franco Jewellers apart.

58+ years of Italian heritage craftsmanship. Franco Ceresiani arrived in Melbourne from Italy in 1956 and opened his first boutique in Elizabeth Street in 1968. Today his daughters Silvana and Daniela continue that legacy from Collins Street — read more about our story on our About Us page.

Everything made in-house. Your ring is created in our on-site workshop, by our master jeweller with 25+ years of specialised experience. It’s never sent to an external casting house or overseas manufacturer. You can see where it’s made. You can meet the person making it.

Direct access to the owners. When you visit Franco Jewellers for a consultation, you work with Silvana or Daniela — not a sales assistant, not a commissioned employee.

No pressure, ever. Franco’s founding philosophy — “friends just the same” — means we’ll never use urgency tactics, create artificial scarcity, or push you toward a decision before you’re ready. Many clients visit us three or four times before committing. That’s not unusual here. It’s welcome.

4.9 stars from 444+ reviews. Our Google rating reflects what our clients actually experience, built over nearly six decades in business.

Cared For, Long After the Proposal

Buying an engagement ring is the start of the relationship with us, not the end of it. We offer complimentary cleaning and inspection for as long as you own your ring, along with resizing and repair support whenever you need it. Many clients also arrange jewellery insurance for their ring once it’s complete — we’re happy to talk through what that involves at your consultation. Your ring is looked after by the same workshop that made it, for as long as you wear it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a custom engagement ring take?

From first consultation to collection, most engagement rings take eight to twelve weeks. This allows time for design development, CAD approval, and creation. If you have a specific proposal date in mind, mention it at your first consultation — we plan timelines around your needs wherever possible.

Do I need to know what I want before my first appointment?

No. Many clients arrive with nothing more than a sense of their partner’s general style. Silvana and Daniela are experienced at helping you develop a design direction through conversation. Bring reference images if you have them, but don’t worry if you don’t.

What is the price range for engagement rings?

Pricing depends on the metal, the diamond selected, and the complexity of the design. We work across a range of budgets and will always be transparent about costs from the outset. There’s no minimum spend and no pressure to stretch beyond what’s comfortable. Contact us or book a consultation to discuss your budget directly.

Can you create a ring using a diamond I already have?

Yes. If you have an inherited diamond, a stone purchased elsewhere, or a loose diamond you’d like to set, we’re very happy to work with it. Our master jeweller will assess the stone and design a setting built around its specific character and dimensions.

Do you offer lab-grown diamonds?

Yes. Lab-grown diamonds are available across all of our engagement ring styles and commissions. They’re physically identical to natural diamonds and offer excellent value. Silvana and Daniela can walk you through the comparison honestly and help you decide which suits your priorities.

Is my engagement ring insured once I buy it?

Not automatically — insurance for an engagement ring is generally arranged separately, either through a specialist jewellery insurer or as a rider on home contents insurance. We can talk you through what’s involved and what documentation you’ll need at your consultation, and our jewellery insurance page has more detail.
