A damaged clasp, a stone that’s come loose, a ring that no longer fits — these things happen to jewellery that gets worn and loved, and they’re rarely as serious as they feel in the moment. What matters is having someone trustworthy to take it to: someone who can assess the piece properly, explain what’s actually needed, and repair it to a standard that respects what the piece means to you.
At Franco Jewellers, jewellery repairs are handled in-house, by our master jeweller, in our Collins Street workshop in Melbourne — the same place your piece may well have been made in the first place, and the same standard of craftsmanship applied to every custom commission we take on.
Repair Services We Offer
Ring resizing. Whether a ring no longer fits due to weight changes, was sized incorrectly elsewhere, or was inherited and needs adjusting, our master jeweller resizes rings in most metals while preserving the integrity of the setting and any stones.
Stone re-setting and tightening. Loose or missing stones are one of the most common repairs we see. We assess the setting, re-secure or replace stones as needed, and check the rest of the piece for similar wear.
Chain and clasp repair. Broken chains, worn clasps, and damaged links are repaired to the original standard — not patched as a temporary fix.
Engraving. Adding, refreshing, or amending engraving on rings, pendants, and bracelets.
Polishing and refinishing. Bringing worn or dulled jewellery back to its original finish, including deeper restoration for older or heirloom pieces.
Jewellery remodelling. If a piece is damaged beyond a straightforward repair — or you’d simply rather redesign it than restore it — we can rework the existing gold, diamonds, or gemstones into something new. Read more on our jewellery remodelling page.
Repairs and Insurance
If a piece has been lost, stolen, or damaged and you’re working through an insurance claim, we’re able to assess the item, provide a repair or replacement quote, and work directly with your insurer where required to help the process move as smoothly as possible. Specific details of Franco Jewellers’ insurance partnerships are being confirmed and will be added to this section once finalised — see Editor Action.
For separate insurance valuation services (for new or existing pieces you’d like formally valued), visit our insurance valuations page.
Our Repair Process
Every repair starts with an assessment — either in person at our Collins Street boutique or, for straightforward matters, over the phone or by email. Our master jeweller examines the piece, explains what’s required, and provides a quote before any work begins. There’s no obligation to proceed, and no pressure to decide on the spot.
Once approved, repairs are carried out on-site. Turnaround depends on the nature of the work: simple repairs such as clasp fixes or minor resizing are often same-week, while more involved restoration or remodelling takes longer. We’ll always give you a realistic timeframe upfront.
Why Melbourne Clients Trust Franco Jewellers With Repairs
In-house expertise. Repairs are carried out by our master jeweller, with more than 25 years of experience — not sent off-site to a third party you’ll never meet.
58+ years of family reputation. Franco Jewellers has been part of Melbourne’s jewellery scene since 1968. That reputation is built on getting the details right, including the less glamorous work of repairs and maintenance.
Honest assessment. We’ll tell you clearly whether a piece is worth repairing, remodelling, or — occasionally — best left as it is. We’d rather give you the right advice than the most profitable one.
A relationship, not a transaction. Many repair clients are existing Franco Jewellers customers coming back for ongoing care of pieces we made years ago. We’re just as glad to help with pieces bought elsewhere.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does jewellery repair cost in Melbourne?
It depends entirely on the repair — a clasp fix and a full re-setting are very different jobs. We provide a clear quote after assessing your piece in person, with no obligation to proceed.
How long do repairs take?
Simple repairs are often completed within a week; more complex restoration or remodelling work takes longer. You’ll be given a specific timeframe once we’ve assessed the piece.
Can you repair jewellery I didn’t buy from Franco Jewellers?
Yes. We regularly repair and restore pieces bought elsewhere, including inherited jewellery and pieces from other jewellers.
Do you offer watch repairs as well?
Yes — visit our watch repairs page for details on servicing and repair for luxury timepieces.
Can you help with an insurance claim for lost or damaged jewellery?
Yes, we can assess your item and provide the documentation typically required to support a claim. Speak with us directly about your specific insurer’s requirements.
